About

Dr. Himanshu Tyagi is a consultant neuropsychiatrist specialising in the treatment of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and related disorders, including Tourette syndrome, body dysmorphic disorder, and neuropsychiatric comorbidities. He runs a specialist outpatient clinic for Tourette syndrome comorbid with OCD and provides expert neuropsychiatric input as part of an NHS England commissioned level 1 neurorehabilitation service.

Dr. Tyagi initially trained as a psychiatrist before specialising as a medical psychotherapist. His strong research interests in OCD have led him to coordinate MRC-funded clinical research, evaluating new treatment approaches for severe, treatment-refractory OCD. He has a long-standing affiliation with the UCL Institute of Neurology in Queen Square, where he also works as an inpatient consultant in neurorehabilitation. In this capacity, he offers specialist neuropsychiatric input to patients in a tertiary neurorehabilitation unit and runs a special interest group for psychiatry specialist registrars interested in neuropsychiatry, as well as providing honorary placements for MSc students from UCLH-affiliated courses.

Dr. Tyagi's research expertise primarily focuses on OCD, its related disorders, and associated comorbidities such as Tourette syndrome and body dysmorphic disorder. Before joining UCLH at Queen Square in 2016, he coordinated the MRC-UCL randomised controlled trial of deep brain stimulation for severe, treatment-refractory OCD from 2012-2016. Dr. Tyagi completed his basic specialist training at St. Mary’s Hospital in north London and advanced psychiatric training at the National Service for OCD and Body Dysmorphic Disorder at Springfield University Hospital, south London, where he was recognised with a national award from the Royal College of Psychiatrists in 2012. He is also the co-founder and current vice-chair of the Royal College of Psychiatrists’ Faculty Network for Obsessive-Compulsive and Related Disorders (OCARD).

“Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions.”
