About Prof Gavin Galasko

Prof Gavin Galasko is a Consultant Interventional Cardiologist at the Lancashire Cardiac Centre in Blackpool which is a large tertiary cardiology/cardiothoracic centre and the regional heart attack centre. He  graduated from Oxford University in 1995, winning the cardiology prize. In 2006, he was awarded a DM (Oxon) doctoral degree, winning an ESC young investigator finalists award for this work. He has been the Director of Research at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals (BTH) since 2017.  In 2019 he led the successful bid for BTH to become one of only 5 NIHR Patient Recruitment Centres (PRCs) nationally, with the Trust receiving £2M in NIHR funding over 5 years to support and grow commercial clinical trial delivery.  In 2024 he led the successful bid for NIHR PRC Blackpool to transition to an NIHR clinical commercial research delivery centre (CRDC), receiving £3.5M in NIHR Infrastructure funding over the next seven years to expand the Trust’s work as a clinical commercial research site. Gavin was awarded an Honorary Professorship in Cardiology at Lancaster University in 2025.

"Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions."
