About

Dr Douglas Elder is a consultant cardiologist practicing at Ninewells Hospital in Dundee, as well as at Perth Royal Infirmary and the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. He practices privately at Spire Shawfair Park Hospital Edinburgh, BMI Kings Park Hospital Stirling, and at Tayside Complete Health in Dundee. He received his medical degree from the University of Dundee in 2001. He underwent specialist training in Cardiology, developing a sub-speciality interest in arrhythmia management, implantable cardiac devices and cardiac electrophysiology. He regularly advises patients with heart rhythm problems such as atrial fibrillation and supraventricular tachycardia (SVT)  and implanted devices including pacemakers, defibrillators (ICD) and sub-cutaneous defibrillators (S-ICD) as well as implantable loop recorders for monitoring of heart rhythms.

He is interested in the management of patients with all cardiac conditions, but has a particular clinical interest in the management of patients with heart rhythm disorders, palpitations, and cardiac syncope. Other clinical interests include dizziness and lightheadedness, Supra-Ventricular Tachycardia (SVT), and ECG interpretation.  He holds Level 2 Certification in Invasive Cardiac Electrophysiology, accredited by the European Society of Cardiology.  Away from the clinic his personal interests include ski-ing, cycling, and software development.
