About Prof David Veale
Professor David Veale is a Consultant Psychiatrist based in London, specialising in anxiety and mood disorders, with particular expertise in obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), health anxiety, emetophobia, depresssion, body dysmorphic disorder (BDD), and death anxiety. He works clinically at The Nightingale Hospital and South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust. He is also a Visiting Professor at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience, King’s College London. Professor Veale has an international reputation in psychiatric research and has published over 150 peer-reviewed papers, along with several books and book chapters. He previously chaired the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) Evidence Update for obsessive compulsive disorder and body dysmorphic disorder in 2013, and was a member of the committee responsible for writing the NICE clinical guidelines for OCD and BDD. In addition to being a consultant psychiatrist, Professor Veale is also a Cognitive Behaviour Therapist and is associated with Overcoming OCD, a specialist service providing cognitive behavioural therapy for OCD and related disorders. His clinical interests also include depression, particularly rapid treatment approaches such as wake and light therapy, as well as the emerging field of nutritional psychiatry, including the role of the gut microbiota in mental health.
