Dr Assunta Albanese is an experienced Paediatric Endocrinologist. She graduated and trained at the University of Florence in Italy in General Paediatrics and Paediatric Endocrinology, and later completed her training in London, where she also conducted research in disorders of growth and puberty.
Since 1999, she has been a Consultant Paediatric Endocrinologist at St George’s Hospital, where she led the endocrine service until 2023, when she retired and subsequently returned to part-time work. She continues to run the Regional Paediatric Endocrine Network, including regular outreach clinics in regional district general hospitals. She also practises at The Royal Marsden Hospital, where from 1999 she led the endocrine service for children and adolescents with cancer.
Her clinical practice encompasses general endocrinology, with particular expertise in disorders of growth, puberty, thyroid and adrenal conditions, and the endocrine late effects in survivors of childhood cancer.
Dr Albanese is a qualified medical educator, holding a Certificate in Medical Education, and is actively involved in postgraduate teaching. She remains actively engaged in research and has published 89 peer-reviewed manuscripts, articles, and book chapters, as well as 77 abstracts. She is also a regular invited speaker at national and international conferences.
