Dr Claire Higgins is a Consultant Dermatologist and Fellow of the Australasian College of Dermatologists, with specialist expertise in medical and occupational dermatology. She graduated with Honours in Medicine and a Bachelor of Science from the University of Melbourne and completed her early clinical training at the Royal Melbourne Hospital.
Dr Higgins undertook her dermatology training across several leading Victorian hospitals, including St Vincent’s Hospital, Austin Hospital, Monash Health, the Royal Women’s Hospital, and the Royal Children’s Hospital. During this time, she was awarded the John Fewings Memorial Prize for best paper in contact dermatitis. She has also worked as a research fellow in occupational dermatology and patch testing and has contributed to clinical trials investigating treatments for psoriasis and eczema.
In addition to her clinical qualifications, Dr Higgins holds a Master of Public Health with a focus on health services management and consumer participation in healthcare quality improvement. She has published in both Australian and international journals and contributed to multiple dermatology textbooks.
Her clinical interests include skin cancer detection and management, acne, rosacea, eczema, psoriasis, hidradenitis suppurativa, hyperhidrosis, patch testing and women’s dermatology. Dr Higgins currently holds public appointments at Monash Health and the Skin Health Institute in Melbourne.
