About Dr Britt Christensen
Dr Britt Christensen practises gastroenterology and endoscopy at the Royal Melbourne Hospital, with private practice at Focus Gastroenterology in East Melbourne, Williamstown, Werribee, Altona, and Sydenham. She specialises in Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) and leads the Royal Melbourne Hospital IBD Unit. In addition to IBD, Dr Christensen also treats a number of other conditions as listed below: Irritable Bowel Syndrome Iron deficiency anaemia Gastrointestinal bleeding Coeliac disease Liver disorders Initially qualifying at the University of Melbourne, Dr Christensen later studied a master's degree in Public Health at Monash University, for which she received a Medal of Academic Excellence. She was also awarded a fellowship which allowed her to undertake two years of further training at the world-renowned Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center at the University of Chicago. Dr Christensen has a significant interest in research and has had her work published in a number of journals. Her current research is in pregnancy and IBD, mucosal healing and drug level monitoring in IBD, and intestinal ultrasound in IBD. Dr Christensen has also authored several chapters in IBD textbooks and is a reviewer for a top gastroenterology journal. Dr Christensen founded the IBD Pregnancy Clinic at The Royal Melbourne Hospital and continues to be a part of the multidisciplinary team. She is also involved in multiple clinical trials and supervises a number of PhD and master's students. In addition, Dr Christensen is a scientific board member for the International Bowel Ultrasound Group. Dr Christensen lives in Melbourne with her husband and two young children and whilst away from work, she enjoys spending time with her family, travelling, and reading.
