With over 20 years of experience in the field of Plastic and Reconstructive surgery, Mr Appukuttan is renowned for delivering outstanding patient care and clinical excellence. Mr Appukuttan has trained in Plastic surgery in different Units in England and overseas and received advanced training in Hand and microsurgery from the United States and UK.

Mr Appukuttan's international training includes prestigious fellowships including the Kleinert Fellowship in Hand and Microsurgery (University of Louisville, USA), BSSH Hand Fellowship (Chelmsford, UK) and Ethicon Aesthetic Fellowship (India). He is one of the few Plastic Surgeons in the country to hold both the British and European Hand Diplomas. His career is complemented by multiple awards for excellence during his medical training.  He is on the UK Specialist Register for Plastic surgery.

Currently a full time Consultant Plastic and Hand Surgeon at County Durham and Darlington NHS Trust, Mr. Appukuttan has expertise across Hand surgery, trauma including complex hand injuries, nerve and tendon repair, skin cancer reconstruction, lower-limb and trunk reconstruction and aesthetic procedures. His dedication to advancing the field is reflected in his extensive research publications and active roles in professional societies like Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (RCSEd), British Society for Surgery of the Hand (BSSH), Federation of European Societies for Surgery of the Hand (FESSH), British Association of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (BAPRAS), the Kleinert Hand Society, the Kairali Plastic Surgeons’ Association (KPSA) and the British Medical Association (BMA).

A passionate educator and skilled medical illustrator, Mr Appukuttan has pioneered plastic surgical courses and workshops, sharing knowledge to enhance the next generation of surgeons. Through advanced techniques and compassionate care, he continues to set high standards in plastic and reconstructive surgery.
