About Dr Andrew Allard

Dr Andrew Allard is a Consultant Rheumatologist employed at the Royal National Hospital for Rheumatic Diseases (RNHRD), part of the Royal United Hospitals Bath NHSFT. He attended Cambridge University and University College London during his undergraduate training and completed his rheumatology speciality training in the Severn region. Dr Allard sees patients with a range of inflammatory and non-inflammatory musculoskeletal conditions. These include various forms of inflammatory arthritis such as rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, axial spondyloarthritis and crystal arthropathies (gout and pseudogout) as well as non-inflammatory conditions such as osteoarthritis, soft tissue rheumatism, fibromyalgia and hypermobility disorders.  He has specific sub-speciality interests in rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis and immunotherapy induced rheumatic disease. He is the departmental lead for the Rheumatoid Arthritis service at the RNHRD and is the Principle Investigator for Clinical Trials in Rheumatoid Arthritis and immunotherapy-induced rheumatic disease.  Dr Allard has a strong interest in medical education. He is the Training Programme Director for rheumatology in the Severn Deanery and is the clinical representative on the Education and Engagement Committee for the Bath Institute for Rheumatic Diseases (BIRD) – a charity committee focused on expanding patient awareness and education both with regards to rheumatological conditions and engagement in rheumatology research. In the event that a patient presents with a condition not covered by Dr Allard’s area of expertise, or where he feels a patient’s treatment may be more appropriately managed by an alternative clinician or patient pathway, he is happy to make onward recommendations or referrals as required.
