About Mr Ammar Al Midani
Mr Ammar Al Midani is a Consultant Renal Transplant and Vascular Access Surgeon at the Royal Free Hospital in London. His clinical practice covers renal transplantation, vascular access surgery, abdominal wall reconstruction and hernia repair for renal patients. He specialises in renal transplants, vascular access procedures including complex grafts and fistula repair, and laparoscopic peritoneal dialysis catheter insertion. His expertise also includes APKD nephrectomies, abdominal wall reconstruction and the management of incisional hernias in renal patients. Over the last decade at the Royal Free, he has performed more than two thousand operations. His interests focus on complex renal transplant surgery, continuity of care for renal transplant recipients, and the creation of optimal vascular access to support successful transplantation and follow-up care. He also leads the renal pre-transplant metabolic (weight loss) clinic and has a particular interest in managing morbid obesity before renal transplant surgery to improve access to transplantation. He is leading the K-FIT clinic the first renal weight loss clinic in the UK that uses GLP1 , Psychology , physiothearpy and dietetion with csuccessful results. He is Certified partner of the National Medical Weight Loss Programme (NMWLP). Alongside his clinical work, Mr Al Midani is an Honorary Associate Professor at University College London, where he teaches renal and transplant surgery to medical students and leads the year four renal surgical teaching programme. He is also an examiner for the Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons (MRCS) and serves as faculty on surgical courses for the Royal College of Surgeons of England, including START and CCrISP. At the Royal Free Hospital, he is a course director for surgical training. He speaks English, Arabic and French.
