About
Lead for the TB service at Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals
NHS Trust. He is a clinical advisor for the national MDRTB advisory service. He
is the joint lead for the pleural lung disease service at King George Hospital.
He was the Clinical Lead for the collaborative BHRUT/NELFT Post-COVID service.
He has specialist interest and experience in managing respiratory infections,
including tuberculosis (TB), bronchiectasis, airways disease (asthma & COPD),
cough, lung cancer, pleural disease, interstitial lung disease, breathlessness
and sleep apnoea.
He obtained his medical degree from University College London before
undertaking post-graduate training in Oxford and London.
In 2016, he undertook a 3-year NIHR Clinical fellowship at
the HPRU in Respiratory Infections at Imperial College London and the Virus
reference department at the UKHSA. He completed a PhD within the National Heart
and Lung Institute, and his work explored the detection, understanding and
management of severe respiratory infections.
Dr Ainley is active in research and education. He has been a principal
investigator for several research studies and has authored peer reviewed
publications and textbooks across a variety of specialists areas within
respiratory medicine.
