About Dr Sylvia Baker
Dr Sylvia Baker is a highly experienced child psychiatrist with a broad range of expertise in psychiatric conditions during childhood and adolescence. She specialises in the diagnosis and treatment of anxiety, depression, Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, Tic disorders, and eating disorders in children and adults. Dr Baker obtained her medical degree from University College London and Royal Free Medical School in 2006, and completed postgraduate examinations for the Royal College of Psychiatrists in 2012. She also holds a Masters Degree in Psychiatry and Psychological Medicine with distinction in research from Cardiff University in 2014. Dr Baker has received specialist training in cognitive-behavioural therapy for children with anxiety, depression, anorexia, and bulimia, and has undergone dialectical behavioural therapy training in distress tolerance in adolescents at the Oxford Cognitive Therapy Centre. Her career history includes rotations in general medicine and surgery at the Royal United Hospital in Bath and Lister Hospital in Stevenage from 2007-2009, and general adult psychiatry training at Cardiff hospitals from 2009-2012. She also completed Child and Adolescent Mental Health (CAMH) training at the Cardiff and South Wales Training Scheme from 2012-2017. Dr Baker has worked as an NHS consultant in Child and Adolescent Mental Health at Tonteg Child & Family Centre from 2017-2020 and as a consultant psychiatrist for the inpatient specialist eating disorder unit at Priory Hospital, Bristol from 2020-2022. She has been recognized for her research and academic achievements, winning the Royal College of Psychiatrists in Wales & Welsh Psychiatric Society Poster Prize in 2011 for an audit of diagnostic pathways in Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in CAMHS Cardiff.
