About Mr Sim Johal
I am a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon with a specialist interest in hip and knee replacement surgery, arthroscopy and young adult hip problems. My NHS practise is based at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, where I am the lead surgeon for the National Joint Registry and I also lead the fracture neck of femur service. After being selected to attend Colchester Royal Grammar School, I obtained an intercalated First Class Bachelor of Science degree and then graduated with honours in Medicine, from the University of Southampton. I then completed my higher surgical training on the East Anglian rotation, based primarily at Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge and the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital. I undertook one of the country's highest volume complex hip revision fellowships at the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital. This was followed by being selected for the prestigious Charnley fellowship at Wrightington Hospital, an internationally renowned centre for complex hip and knee surgery. I have also spent time in Belfast working with Professor Beverland, looking at theatre efficiency and enhanced recovery following hip and knee surgery. In addition, I am fellowship trained in the diagnosis and treatment of young adult hip problems including femoro-acetabular impingement and labral tears. I also have experience of various surgical approaches to the hip, custom and 3D printed implants and robotic surgery. I have published and presented internationally and have a strong interest in teaching and training. I am a also a reviewer for the journal Hip International.
