About Dr Simon Whitcher
Dr Simon Whitcher is a highly skilled General and Bariatric Surgeon who has called Newcastle home for the past decade. After completing an undergraduate degree in Medical Science and a postgraduate degree in Medicine and Surgery, he undertook his surgical training in the Hunter region. Following his fellowship with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, Dr Whitcher pursued advanced training in benign Upper GI and Bariatric surgery, including working at one of Australia’s leading public bariatric centres in Melbourne. He also gained experience in complex revisional bariatric surgery at the world-renowned Lennox Hill Hospital in New York. With a master’s degree in Minimally Invasive Surgery, Dr Whitcher is skilled in modern surgical techniques. He offers both surgical and non-surgical solutions for weight management, tailoring his approach to meet individual patient needs and health goals. As a co-founder of Hunter Weight Loss and Upper GI, Dr Whitcher provides comprehensive care for upper gastrointestinal and bariatric conditions, as well as general surgery. He is known for his empathetic and approachable nature, as Dr Whitcher is committed to improving his patients' physical, metabolic, and psychological well-being. He consults privately in Merewether and Maitland, and operates at Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, and Maitland Private Hospitals.
