Dr Shweta Aggarwal is a Consultant Oncoplastic Breast and Plastic Surgeon. Her NHS practice involves the surgical treatment of breast, skin cancers and reconstruction. She is a member of both skin and breast cancer multidisciplinary teams. She is one of the few breast surgeons in the UK who is fully trained in plastic surgery. This gives her a unique perspective as regards preservation of aesthetics while performing cancer surgery. She is able to offer the full range of oncoplastic procedures including fat grafting, which can be used in the treatment of contour deformities, scars and as an adjunct to reconstructive surgery, to improve the appearance of breast following cancer treatment.
Dr Aggarwal obtained her primary medical degree from the University of Delhi, where she was ranked first in the highly competitive Indian National Postgraduate Entrance Exam. She completed her plastic surgery training in London as part of the Pan Thames training programme, gaining a wide range of experience in cancer reconstruction. Her training was complemented by two prestigious fellowships, the microsurgery fellowship at the Royal Marsden Hospital and the National Training Interface Group (TIG) fellowship in breast cancer.
In addition to clinical practice, Dr Aggarwal is the audit, quality improvement and research lead for the breast unit at Whipps Cross Hospital. She is a member of iBRA net, a group for innovation and evaluation of new surgical techniques and products, and is also principle investigator for two national studies on the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) portfolio.
With these roles, she remains at the forefront of her profession, ensuring that skills and knowledge are kept up to date. This helps her to offer the best possible care to her patients, tailored to their individual needs.
