He also provides private consultations at the Manor Hospital, Oxford, with the option of secure remote video consultations for patients. He is especially skilled in catheter ablation, a technique that uses targeted heat energy to correct abnormal heart rhythms, offering patients an alternative to long-term medication.
In addition to his clinical practice, Dr Wijesurendra is deeply involved in research, particularly in the areas of atrial fibrillation and cardiometabolic risk factors, publishing almost 100 scientific papers in studying the heart. His work in the Nuffield Department of Population Health combines large-scale clinical trials with mechanistic studies, and his contributions have been widely recognised, earning him prestigious awards such as the Young Investigator Award from the European Society of Cardiology.
