Dr Ravishankar Raobaikady is a highly regarded Anaesthetist. They are a key opinion leader across the world in anaemia management for major surgery and oncology. Dr Raobaikady is a founder member of the iron clinic which specialises in iron deficiency management with intravenous iron infusion for various medical conditions. Over the years Dr Raobaikady has contributed to the management of anaemia with clinical research, national and international guidelines, delivering education with lectures and poster presentations, developing unique anaemia services in NHS practice and continuing research/quality improvement programmes in anaemia and iron deficiency management.
Dr Raobaikady's research projects include peri-operative anaemia management, cardio-pulmonary exercise testing, intravenous versus gas anaesthesia, prehabilitation prior to major cancer surgery and evidence-based management of major haemorrhage. As a principal investigator, Dr Raobaikady was the lead recruiter among the 45 centres for the recently published PREVENTT (preoperative anaemia management with intravenous iron) clinical trial. They were also part of the team which published two consensus statements on anaemia management in surgery and Association of Anaesthetists in the UK and Ireland blood transfusion guidelines.
Dr Raobaikady is a specialist in anaesthesia for major hepatobiliary/pancreatic and upper GI surgery. Their expertise lies in anaemia management in cancer, cardiopulmonary exercise testing before major surgery, management of major haemorrhage, long-term vascular access for cancer therapy and anaesthesia for interventional radiology and endoscopic procedures.
