He chairs the Diabetes Working Group of the South Asian Heart Foundation (SAHF) and contributes to the Parliamentary and Stakeholder Diabetes Think Tank. He serves on the Board of Directors for Apnee Sehat, a UK-based social enterprise focusing on innovative healthcare delivery.
Prof Hanif has also authored numerous publications, toolkits, and guides in ethnic health. Notably, his 2009 report on research gaps among South Asians with Diabetes in the UK was launched at the Houses of Parliament. His involvement with NICE spans advisory roles on various committees, including Health Technology Appraisals, and providing expertise on issues such as obesity definitions, diabetes prevention, and new treatments.
