About Dr Paul Smith

Dr Paul Smith is a consultant cardiologist based at the Yorkshire Clinic in Bingley. He specialises in complex device therapy as well as all aspects of general cardiology including heart failure, heart rhythm disturbance, and pacemaker implantation. Dr Smith has vast experience in treating all aspects of adult heart disease and is able to provide patients with a comprehensive assessment of symptoms such as palpitations, chest pain, breathlessness, dizziness, and blackouts. He has particular expertise in the assessment of syncope (blackouts) including those that occur as a result of low blood pressure or autonomic disturbance, and he currently leads the Bradford Syncope Sevice. In addition to his private practice, Dr Smith is also Clincal Lead for Cardiology at Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and is an Associate Medical Director focusing on clinical effectiveness and patient safety. After graduating from Leeds University in 1996, Dr Smith continued his cardiology training across West Yorkshire and was able to obtain a three-year fellowship with the British Heart Foundation. Following this, he was awarded a PhD for his research on the role of the autonomic nervous system in cardiovascular disease. Dr Smith then went on to complete a clinical fellowship at the Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto, Canada, where he received extensive training in advanced heart failure, focusing particularly on complex device therapy including resynchronisation therapy and the use of implantable defibrillators. Dr Smith lives in Ilkley with his wife and 3 children. He enjoys the outdoors and spends most weekends playing golf and coaching the local junior football team.

"Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions."
