About

 Associate Professor Paul Cashin completed his undergraduate studies at Monash University in 1984 and underwent General Surgery training at the Repatriation General Hospital, Heidelberg, obtaining his Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in January 1997. He pursued further post-fellowship training as an Upper Gastrointestinal Surgeon in the United Kingdom and at Monash Health. 

A/Prof Cashin currently serves as the Service Director of General Surgery at Monash Health, holding positions as Senior Upper Gastrointestinal Surgeon at Monash Health and Director of Medical Services at Jessie McPherson Private Hospital. Additionally, he holds the role of Adjunct Clinical Associate Professor of Surgery in the Dept. of Surgery, Southern Clinical School, Monash University.   

With a focus on both Upper GI Surgery and General Surgery across public and private sectors, A/Prof Cashin specializes in oesophago-gastric cancer, reflux disease, hiatal hernia, and oesophageal motility disorders. His interests extend to encompassing General Surgery areas like gallbladder and abdominal wall hernia surgeries. He conducts private surgeries at Jessie McPherson Private Hospital and Mulgrave Private Hospital. 

A/Prof Cashin contributes extensively to the medical field, serving as an elected Member of the National Board of the Australian and Aotearoa New Zealand Gastric and Oesophageal Surgery Association. He actively participates in numerous State and Monash Health committees, focusing on oesophago-gastric cancer management, data registries, surgical innovation, and care delivery. He holds key roles in professional associations and boards, demonstrating his commitment to the field. 

His research portfolio covers diverse areas, including common bile duct stones, oesophageal, gastric, and pancreatic cancers, acute surgery delivery, and Optimal Cancer Care Pathways in Oesophago-gastric Cancer. He has authored multiple scientific articles and contributed chapters to several textbooks on General Surgery topics. 

A/Prof Cashin actively engages in mentoring medical students, Registrars, and Oesophagogastric Surgery trainees, fostering a dynamic learning environment.
