About Dr Nina Muirhead

Dr. Nina Muirhead is an accomplished Dermatology Surgeon with over 15 years of experience specialising in the diagnosis and surgical management of skin cancer. She graduated from Oxford University Medical School in 2006, became a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons in 2009, and completed a Diploma in Head and Neck Surgery in 2011. Dr. Muirhead trained extensively in Plastic Surgery within the London Deanery for six years before joining Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust, where she served as a Dermatology Surgeon for nine years. During this time, she managed general dermatology and urgent skin cancer clinics, performing complex head and neck excisions, flap and graft reconstructions, and skin cancer surveillance in high-risk and transplant patients. She also served as Academic Lead for Medical Dermatology and contributed to the Specialist Cutaneous Lymphoma and Transplant Skin Surveillance Clinics. Dedicated to education and research, Dr. Muirhead holds a Master’s degree in Education, has co-authored two medical textbooks, and developed innovative e-learning programmes for medical trainees. In 2015, she completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Dermatology (PGDipDerm) with distinction from Cardiff University, where she now teaches as a course tutor She is a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons, an Associate Member of the Royal College of Physicians, and affiliated with the British Association of Dermatologists. Currently, she practises as a Specialty Doctor in Dermatology Surgery, offering expert care to self-pay patients while completing her CESR accreditation. Her research interests include squamous cell carcinoma in solid organ transplant patients and novel diagnostic techniques in skin cancer detection—most notably, she published a pioneering study demonstrating that dogs can detect melanoma by scent. Beyond dermatology, Dr. Muirhead is an advocate for improved medical understanding of Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME/CFS), Long Covid, and post-viral disease, drawing on her personal experience as a patient to promote more compassionate, holistic healthcare. She has worked with NICE and the Department of Health and Social Care to enhance awareness and education on these conditions.

"Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions."
