About

Mr Simon Newman is a consultant orthopaedic hip surgeon and clinical director (lead) of the hip unit at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, London. He performs a high volume of hip replacements, hip arthroscopy and revision hip replacement  each year. Mr Newman is a firm believer in offering patients evidence-based treatments; he is actively involved in developing the evidence base in hip and knee surgery through leading and participating in research projects. He has produced over 60 papers and conference presentations and has been awarded multiple prizes for his research work.

Mr Newman completed his undergraduate medical training at the University of Southampton before being appointed to the prestigious academic post on the North-West London orthopaedic training rotation. During this time he completed a PhD at Imperial College London which involved novel work on implant coating materials and the development of patient-specific guides for surgery. Mr Newman has also completed a specialist hip fellowship at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital which has an excellent reputation for joint replacement surgery. He was then awarded a second fellowship at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Oxford where he received specialist training in keyhole hip surgery (arthroscopy) and further training in the management of hip dysplasia at Guy's Hospital, London. He was appointed as a consultant hip surgeon in Oxford in 2017 before moving to the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, London in 2024 as part of the Joint Reconstruction and Hip Preservation units.

Mr Newman lives in West London and spends most of his free time trying to keep up with his three sons and daughter.

“Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions.”
