Mr Nicholas Stylianides is a Consultant Colorectal and General Surgeon, as well as the Robotic Lead at Manchester Royal Infirmary, part of Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust. His areas of specialist interest include the treatment and prevention of a wide range of bowel complaints, encompassing both benign conditions such as haemorrhoids, inflammatory bowel disease, and diverticular disease, as well as malignant conditions including colon and rectal cancer. In addition, his general surgery work covers keyhole hernia repairs, gallstone and gallbladder surgeries, and excision of benign skin lesions such as lipomas and cysts. As part of his NHS responsibilities, he is actively involved in emergency surgery, managing conditions such as appendicitis and acute rectal bleeding.
Mr Stylianides is also a keen endoscopist, holding full JAG accreditation for colonoscopy, sigmoidoscopy, gastroscopy, and polypectomy. He is an active member of the faculty at the Mersey School of Endoscopy, where he regularly teaches on colonoscopy courses. His extensive training has been enriched by international experiences, having completed two post-qualification fellowships: a laparoscopic colorectal fellowship in Yorkshire, and an advanced rectal cancer fellowship at Karolinska University Hospital in Stockholm. Additionally, he has further honed his expertise in advanced robotic techniques during his time at Tokyo’s Medical and Dental Hospital.
Previously, Mr Stylianides served as President of the Dukes’ Club and was a council member of the Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain and Ireland. He remains actively involved in audit and research at both local and national levels, recruiting patients to multiple clinical trials and contributing to the advancement of colorectal surgery.
