About Mr Murtuza Sikander
Mr Murtuza Sikander is a highly experienced Consultant Neurosurgeon and Spinal Surgeon, currently based at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, where he serves as the Lead Clinician for the Neurosurgical Spinal Service. His extensive training includes fellowship programmes in both skull base and spinal surgery, undertaken at several leading institutions including King’s College Hospital, The Royal Free Hospital, The Royal London Hospital, and the John Radcliffe Hospital itself. Before establishing his practice in Oxford, Mr Sikander held consultant roles at St Mary’s Hospital and Charing Cross Hospital in London, managing a wide range of neurosurgical and spinal conditions. Mr Sikander specialises in treating complex spinal disorders, including spinal pain resulting from degenerative disease, spinal stenosis, spinal cord tumours, spinal vascular malformations, adult congenital abnormalities, Arnold-Chiari Malformations, and syringomyelia. He also performs complex revision spine surgeries and is known for his expertise in minimally invasive techniques. In addition to his spinal work, he is an accomplished cranial neurosurgeon with a particular sub-specialist interest in Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus (NPH)—a frequently misdiagnosed but treatable condition that often mimics dementia in older adults. Mr Sikander has pioneered several advanced techniques in brain and spine surgery, including endoscopic spine surgery, awake spine surgery, and novel surgical interventions for NPH. His contributions continue to influence modern neurosurgical practice and improve outcomes for patients with complex neurological conditions.
"Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions."
