I am a fulltime consultant in Breast surgery at Sandwell & West Birmingham Hospitals NHS and Clinical lead for Breast surgery at SWBH.
I have been a consultant at the trust since July 2007 to date. I have wide experience in breast and general surgery. Our team at City Hospital had championed the day case mastectomy and axillary clearnce and this has been a national model since. City hospital is one of the largest screening units
and has wide experience with wire guided /TAG (Magseed) guided procedures for impalpable lesions. We have a strong MDT and all decision are taken at the meeting. As a surgical tutor for the Royal College of Surgeons of England (RCSEng), I had taken regular and active part in undergraduate & post graduate teaching and training. I am currently an examiner for the MRCS and intercollegiate FRCS examinations. I have been course director for teaching courses at the RCS with START and TrACEcourses. As part of continuing medical education & appraisal, I contribute to the mortality and morbidity meeting and regular attandance at Quality improvement days (QIHD). As an accredited appraiser, I have executed appraisal review for colleagues and provided sound portfolio advice and career guidance. I utilised
my sabbatical year to work at the Tawam oncology centre, Al Ain for one year as
consultant Breast surgeon in 2019/20. This has been a valuable experience to
treat patients and work within the UAE health system.
Recently, at the trust we have developed awake anaesthesia breast surgery where high risk patient can have paravertebral block and undergo breast surgery avoiding geneeral aneasthesia.
First awake breast surgery performed at the Midland Met | Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust
