Mr Kim Son Lett is a highly experienced Consultant Ophthalmologist, specialising in vitreo-retinal (VR) surgery and cataract surgery. He qualified in medicine at St George’s Hospital Medical School, London, before undertaking extensive training in general ophthalmology across the UK. He completed higher specialist training in the East Midlands, obtaining the Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) and entry onto the GMC Specialist Register for Ophthalmology. He went on to complete advanced subspecialist training in vitreo-retinal surgery at Queen’s Medical Centre, Nottingham.
Since 2011, Mr Lett has been a Consultant Ophthalmologist at the Birmingham & Midland Eye Centre (BMEC), the second largest eye unit in the UK. He has previously served as Director of the Acute Eye Service and is currently Director of both the Vitreo-Retinal and Cataract Services. He is frequently referred complex cases from other VR surgeons for second opinions and highly specialised procedures. In addition, he acts as an ophthalmology advisor to the Public Health Service Ombudsman, contributing to the resolution of disputed clinical cases.
Committed to advancing education, Mr Lett is an invited speaker at national and international conferences and a faculty member on numerous training courses. He also provides regular educational seminars for GPs and optometrists. With a strong focus on postgraduate training, he has supervised more than 40 UK and international senior fellows, all of whom are now practising VR consultants, as well as numerous trainees from the West Midlands School of Ophthalmology.
Mr Lett is known for his friendly, patient-focused approach, ensuring that patients are fully informed and actively involved in decisions about their care.
