About

Mr James Casha is a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon based in Kent, UK. He completed his medical education at the University of Malta in 1986, before undertaking his speciality training in Orthopaedic Surgery in Glasgow, and subsequently Dundee. In 1994, he obtained his Intercollegiate Fellowship in Trauma and Orthopaedics from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and a Masters in Ortnhopaedic Surgery from the University of Dundee. In 1995, Mr Casha was an international AO  Spine and Trauma Fellow in Bochum, Germany, after which he undertook a Fellowship in Primary and Revision Spine and Joint Reconstruction at the Orthopaedic and Arthritic Hospital under the University of Toronto.

For 3 years until 1999, Mr Casha returned to Malta where he also worked as a part-time Lecturer in Anatomy and Surgery at the University of Malta. 

In 1999, upon his return to the UK, he was appointed as a Consultant Orthopaedic and Spinal Surgeon for East Kent Hospitals University Trust. 

He plays an active role in the teaching of ATLS (Advanced Trauma Life Support), fracture treatment, and spinal surgery and, in 2000, he was awarded a Fellowship from the Royal College of Surgeons of England ad eundem. 

In addition to working in hospitals across Kent, Mr Casha has held the position of Honorary Senior Lecturer at Kings College Medical School since 2013.

Mr Casha has expertise in the following areas: herniated discs, facet joint injection, lumbar disc removal (discectomy), slipped disc surgery, spinal fusion, scoliosis surgery, kyphoplasty, trapped nerve surgery, spine fracture surgery, neck pain, back pain, sciatica, spondylolithesis, spondylolysis, spinal stenosis.

He now concentrates on the diagnosis and investigation of back problems, as well as conservative treatment and the use of injection treatment. Mr Casha spends a lot of time individually, customising treatment for his patients and counselling them.

He is a member of the British Orthopaedic Association, British Association of Spine Surgeons, British Scoliosis Society, European Spine Society, AO Spine and AOTrauma.
