Mr Zaw qualified in Medicine in 1997 from King's College London, before completing specialist fellowship training at Guy's & St Thomas' Hospital, The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital and Basingstoke & North Hampshire Hospital. Furthermore, he completed a fellowship at the prestigious Dresden University Hospital in Germany. This involved treating all types of major trauma, as well as learning the latest techniques in managing complex foot and ankle fractures and sports injuries. He also attended foot & ankle units in France and The Netherlands to develop his interest in arthroscopic surgery and sports injuries.
Mr Zaw was appointed as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at The Hillingdon and Mount Vernon NHS Hospitals in 2012, where he established a new foot and ankle service for people in the local region. The foot and ankle unit offers a comprehensive range of treatments with combined care involving physiotherapists, podiatrists, orthotists and plaster technicians. Mr Zaw moved into the private sector in 2013 and has developed a busy practice. He can perform arthroscopic (keyhole) surgery, bunion surgery, treatment of foot and ankle arthritis (including cartilage regeneration procedures), flatfoot and high arch surgery, correction of lesser toe deformities, ligament and tendon reconstruction, surgery in neurological and rheumatoid patients and many more. He also provides shockwave therapy for plantar fasciitis and Achilles tendon problems.
Away from his clinical practise, Mr Zaw is closely involved in training junior surgeons and is a faculty member for the Imperial FRCS viva course and External Fixator course in London. He also trains physiotherapists in both the NHS and private sector, as well as General Practitioners. He is well published in international journals and orthopaedic textbooks.
In his spare time Mr Zaw is often found on the golf course searching for his golf ball or spending time with his family.
