Mr. Patel has worked as the Associate Divisional Director for Surgery, bringing valuable leadership experience, including his past role as an executive board member. His clinical expertise extends to lower limb arthroplasty, sports medicine, limb reconstruction, and select aspects of hand surgery.
After completing his foundational orthopaedic training, Mr. Patel pursued a Master’s degree in Sports Medicine at Nottingham University, further enhancing his skills in managing sports injuries. Throughout his career, he has cared for various national and international athletes, delivering specialised care tailored to their unique needs.
His professional journey includes two prestigious fellowships in Melbourne, Australia, focusing on paediatric orthopaedics and limb reconstruction. This training has equipped him with a deep understanding of complex cases and the latest surgical techniques.
Mr. Patel has been instrumental in establishing a centre of excellence for navigated knee replacements at his hospital, leveraging computer-guided surgery to achieve exceptional precision and patient outcomes. Surgeons from around the world frequently visit to observe this specialised technique. As a faculty member, he regularly teaches international courses on computer-navigated knee replacement surgery, sharing his extensive knowledge and expertise.
In addition to his clinical work, Mr. Patel has held significant leadership roles, including serving as the Clinical Lead for the Musculoskeletal (MSK) business unit. He is dedicated to advancing the field of orthopaedics through continuous learning, teaching, and research. He has authored numerous national and international publications, contributed to textbook chapters, and supported educational websites for medical professionals. He is also a faculty member for various training courses, mentoring junior doctors and fostering the next generation of orthopaedic surgeons.
With a track record of performing over 2,500 knee replacements and more than 2,500 hip replacements, Mr. Patel is a trusted expert in the field. With advances in regenerative and hollistic personalised care, Mr. Patel is now looking at using genomics including epigenome data and gut microbiology including blood tests to create personalised plans for patients to help loose body weight, retard the progression of arthritis and prevent or delay the need for joint replacement surgery.
