About Dr Michael Wakefield
Dr Michael Wakefield is an experienced Specialist in Respiratory Medicine. Dr Wakefield is a Respiratory Consultant doctor based at Harrogate Hospital. Dr Wakefield is dual trained in Respiratory and General Internal medicine, he graduated from Manchester University in 2009 with MbCHb and went on to gain a PG cert in allergy from the University of Southampton. He is a member of the British Thoracic Society and a Committee Member of the Hull North Yorkshire United Asthma Formulary Group. In addition to his work for the NHS, Dr Wakefield has practiced internationally and has published work related to respiratory health At Harrogate Hospital Dr Wakefield leads the local asthma service which encompasses investigating cough and undifferentiated breathlessness. His skills include investigating symptoms such as cough, breathlessness, excessive tiredness and treating a wide range of respiratory illnesses including long covid, pulmonary embolism, asthma, and sleep apnoea. Dr Wakefield’s unique educational and clinical background allows him to understand how a patients’ surrounding environment can affect their health, including lungs and the microbiome.
