About

Dr. Matthew Tung is a dedicated Cardiologist with a focus on heart rhythm management (Cardiac electrophysiology). This includes looking after patients with rapid or irregular heart rhythms (eg. SVT, VT and atrial fibrillation) and also patients with genetic or inherited cardiac conditions.

He has expertise in cardiac ablation and implantation of cardiac devices like pacemakers and implantable cardiac defibrillators. Currently, he serves as a senior staff cardiologist at the Sunshine Coast University Hospital and previously has also served as Clinical Director of Research for the Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Service.

He is the current Clinical Lead for Cardiac Rhythm Management and Cardiology Clinical Trials at the Sunshine Coast University Hospital.

He also provides care and performs procedures at the Sunshine Coast University Private Hospital.

Dr. Tung earned his medical degree from Monash University. He began his residency at Monash Health and subsequently completed training in cardiology at MonashHEART, University Hospital Geelong, and Bendigo Hospital.

His passion for cardiac electrophysiology led him to complete three years of subspecialty training in cardiac rhythm management, with his initial year at MonashHEART, one of Melbourne's busiest cardiology departments. He further developed his expertise during two years at Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria, Canada, where he gained extensive experience in complex cardiac ablation and device implantation.

In addition to his subspecialty training, Dr. Tung completed a Masters in Public Health and has remained committed to research and education. His work has been published in multiple peer-reviewed journals, and he holds a senior lecturer position at Griffith University's School of Medicine. He also actively participates in physician training at Sunshine Coast University Hospital.

Dr. Matthew Tung is a member of the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand and the Heart Rhythm Society
