About Prof Mary Ann Lumsden
Professor Mary Ann Lumsden is a gynaecologist and leading expert in menopause and menstrual disorder, with a distinguished career spanning over three decades. She is Honorary Professor of Medical Education and Gynaecology at the University of Glasgow. Her clinical focus is on complex menopausal issues, particularly in women with underlying medical c.onditions or those recovering from cancer. She also has considerable experience in the management of uterine fibroids and menstrual disorders. She has a strong interest in mid-life women’s health, chronic disease prevention, and addressing health inequalities. She is a Menopause Specialist with Hormone Health and sees patients in person in London and also virtually. She is committed to evidence based medicine and has a long experience of clinical guideline development. She was Chair of the Guidelines Development Group for the European Endocrine Society Guideline which produced, practical advice on the care for women in menopause. Prof Lumsden has also focussed on international leadership and women's health and rights and she continues to contribute extensively to medical education and the global advancement of women’s health. She was a Visiting Professor in Gynaecology at the University of Hong Kong and speaks regularly in South Asia. In recognition of her outstanding contributions to the field, she was awarded the title of Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2017. She is a former CEO of the International Federation of Gynaecology and Obstetrics (FIGO), and has previously served as President of both the International Menopause Society and the British Menopause Society. She is also a former Senior Vice President of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and Vice Chair of the Women’s Health Expert Advisory Group to the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA). Professor Lumsden continues to publish peer-reviewed articles, chapters, and reviews, and remains actively engaged in the education of doctors around the world. She is widely respected for her advocacy, leadership, and enduring commitment to improving women’s health on both a national and international level.
