Dr Marco Raftopulos is a tertiary trained ENT Surgeon who treats both paediatric and adult patients. He has a subspecialty interest in rhinology and sinus disorders, as well as allergy and sleep surgery, including the management of obstructive sleep apnoea.
Dr Raftopulos grew up in Sydney, where he completed his education and medical training. He studied Medicine at the University of New South Wales and graduated in 2008. In 2014, he was selected for specialist training in Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery and was awarded Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2019.
During his specialist training he rotated through several high-volume and subspecialty placements, including extensive paediatric ENT training at Sydney Children’s Hospital and Westmead Children’s Hospital. He also undertook additional training in the management of obstructive sleep apnoea and sleep surgery. Alongside his clinical training, he was elected as the national ENT trainee representative to both the Australian Society of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery (ASOHNS) and the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons Trainees’ Association (RACTSA) boards.
Following completion of his fellowship in Australia, Dr Raftopulos was selected for a prestigious international fellowship in The Netherlands, where he undertook further subspecialty training in rhinology, advanced sinus surgery and skull base disorders. During this time he contributed as a co-author to the European Position Paper on Sinus Disease (EPOS2020), an internationally recognised clinical guideline.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr Raftopulos maintains a strong academic and research interest. He has previously held associate lecturer roles at the University of New South Wales and has published widely in peer-reviewed journals. He has also presented his work at national and international conferences.
