About
Mr Elfar is a UK-trained Consultant Urological Surgeon with over 10 years of consultant-level experience. He specialises in the diagnosis and management of a wide range of urological conditions, including urological cancers, kidney stones, benign prostate
disorders, and recurrent urinary tract infections (UTIs). His expertise in minimally invasive and endoscopic surgery—utilising advanced laser and laparoscopic techniques—enables enhanced patient outcomes and quicker recovery
times.
He has held key leadership positions in the NHS and continues to contribute nationally to clinical governance. He is
currently a member of the NICE Interventional Procedures Advisory Committee
(IPAC), advising on the safe and evidence-based implementation of new
treatments across the NHS. Previous leadership roles include:

Mr Elfar has led over 17 clinical audits
focusing on improving patient safety, surgical outcomes, and service quality
within urology. Key highlights include:
• BAUS Nephrectomy Audit: Achieving high rates of laparoscopic surgery consistent
with national benchmarks
• Laser Ablation Audit: Leading the UK’s largest series of diode laser ablations
for upper tract tumours with excellent outcomes
• Memokath Stent Evaluation: Reviewing long-term effectiveness in ureteric
obstruction management
• Prostate Cancer MDM Audit: Identifying care gaps and recommending enhanced
pre-multidisciplinary team counselling
His research work includes:
• MD Thesis on epigenetic biomarkers in prostate cancer (Queen’s University
Belfast)
• Transitional cell carcinoma prognostic marker study (Ayr Hospital)
• MScThesis on penile reconstructive surgery (Cairo University)

• Recurrent urinary tract infections: investigation and long-term management
• Haematuria: comprehensive diagnostic evaluation and minimally invasive treatment
• Ureteric strictures: stenting and endoscopic management
• Minimally invasive surgery: laparoscopic, laser, and day-case procedures
• Scrotal and testicular surgery under local or general anaesthesia
