About

Ms Kat Baker is a Consultant Colorectal Surgeon based in Oxford, with a specialist practice in colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, and minimally invasive surgery. She has expertise in managing Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, alongside a comprehensive proctology service. Her surgical practice includes advanced robotic procedures using the Da Vinci Xi system, including anterior resection, right hemicolectomy with intracorporeal anastomosis, subtotal colectomy, proctectomy, and pouch surgery.

She qualified in medicine from the University of Bristol in 2006 and subsequently undertook a Royal College of Surgeons research fellowship at University Hospitals Bristol and the University of Bristol. She completed an MD in cellular and molecular medicine, focusing on colorectal cancer, and led a National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) portfolio-adopted study. Her research has been recognised with awards including the John of Arderne Medal from the Royal Society of Medicine and the Rosetrees Essay Prize.

Ms Baker was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship, during which she conducted research at New York-Presbyterian Hospital and Columbia University. She later completed a specialist colorectal fellowship, including robotic surgery training, at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital.

Appointed as a consultant in 2021 at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, she remains actively involved in research, education, and national collaborative studies in colorectal surgery and inflammatory bowel disease.

“Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions.”
