Dr. Karen Anne Baikie is the Director and Founder of Grow Mindfully. She is a registered Consultant Clinical Psychologist, Certified Hakomi Therapist, and Somatic Experiencing Practitioner with around 20 years of experience working with individuals and couples, as well as providing specialist clinical supervision in private practice in Crows Nest.
Dr. Baikie holds a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology and a PhD focusing on the use of expressive writing as a therapeutic tool for survivors of trauma. From the beginning of her training, she has maintained a particular interest in the impact of early childhood trauma and attachment difficulties on the mind and body later in life. She recognised that traditional clinical psychology approaches often did not provide the depth required for lasting change in clients with complex trauma. This led her to pursue training in Hakomi Mindful Somatic Psychotherapy—a mindfulness-based, body-oriented approach—which she found to offer a more effective, compassionate, and organic way of working. She became a Certified Hakomi Therapist and later a Certified Hakomi Trainer with the Hakomi Institute Pacifica Team, teaching on the Sydney Hakomi Professional Training and co-facilitating the Hakomi Embodied and Aware Relationships Training (H.E.A.R.T.) in Sydney.
In addition to her certification in Hakomi, Dr. Baikie has completed training in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, the Psychobiological Approach to Couple Therapy (PACT), and Somatic Experiencing (SE). She integrates these modalities to help individuals and couples move beyond traditional ‘talk therapy’ by creating new experiences in mindful states that promote neural reorganisation and more enduring change.
Her clinical work combines mindfulness-based, body-oriented, and trauma-informed approaches to address issues related to trauma, attachment, relationships, parenting, fertility, eating, gut health, depression, anxiety, and overall wellbeing. She has particular expertise in working with adult survivors of child abuse and offers specialist supervision in trauma, attachment, relationship work, and Hakomi therapy.
In 2018, Dr. Baikie founded Grow Mindfully, realising her vision of creating a group practice of like-minded therapists who support one another while working independently. Through Grow Mindfully, she fosters a community of practitioners dedicated to holistic, mind-and-body approaches that enhance the wellbeing of individuals and families.
