Orthopaedic Surgery
About
As the clinical lead for knee surgery at the Trust I specialise entirely in the treatment of knee conditions and am able to offer a wide variety of treatments including arthroscopic techniques and ligament reconstruction, joint saving surgery, and partial and total knee replacement.
I believe strongly in maximising the use of non-surgical treatments prior to considering surgery. I utilise tried and tested surgical techniques but do like to introduce new methods when there is good reason or evidence to do so. An example would be the use of robotics in knee surgery, which we established as a first in the NHS at the QA in 2018, and the introduction of day-case knee replacement.
I also lead the orthopaedic research department at the QA and the collaboration we have with the University of Portsmouth. We run a variety of projects including investigating the use of stem cell treatments in the knee, advances in ACL reconstruction and innovations using technology and artificial intelligence in health care.
When not working I enjoy spending time with my family and young children, trying keep fit with some running, cycling and the occasional Ironman, and sailing if there's ever a chance.
