About Mr Jack Gormley
Mr Jack Gormley is a full time NHS Consultant in York Teaching Hospitals where he leads the Corneal and Refractive service. He is transforming the corneal transplant service and has initiated the use of DMEK; a ground breaking transplant technique to give rapid visual recovery to patients with corneal disease. Jack has initiated and established refractive laser service for York Teaching Hospitals by partnering with St James's Laser vision, Leeds, using his expertise and network to improve patient care across the region. He has completed thousands of cataract, laser eye and refractive procedures. Jack Gormley is a member of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists' prestigious Microsurgical Skills Teaching Faculty and enjoys being actively involved in the teaching and training of other surgeons. Training: Jack Gormley qualified from the University of Leeds in 2009 with honours and was awarded the West Riding Prize for graduating top of his year. He went on to gain a competitive position completing 8 years of speciality ophthalmology training. Since 2017 Jack has focussed exclusively on corneal and refractive surgery, completing a fellowship at Leeds Teaching Hospitals and St James's Laser Vision. During this time he was awarded a Certificate in Laser and Refractive surgery by the Royal College of Ophthalmology. Jack went on to undertake a prestigious year-long fellowship in Corneal and Refractive Surgery with Professor David O'Brart in St Thomas's Hospital, London, the birthplace of modern cataract surgery. Research: Jack Gormley has published numerous academic research papers in a range of subjects including modernising cataract surgery in the NHS; the impact of cataract surgery on dry eye disease; and the effect of Covid-19 on cataract surgery. He has presented his work internationally including at a leading vision science conference. Jack is also interested in global ophthalmology having worked in Malawi, Africa running a research study in collaboration with the Wellcome Trust and the University of Liverpool. Qualifications: Jack Gormley is registered as a specialist in Ophthalmology with the General Medical Council, and is a fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists. He has completed further training in certification in Laser and refractive surgery obtaining the Certificate of Laser and Refractive surgery from the Royal College of Ophthalmologists and a Post Graduate Diploma in Refractive surgery from the University of Ulster. https://jackgormley.co.uk/
