About

Mr Hamish Clouston is a Colorectal and Peritoneal Surgeon based at The Christie. He has a specialist interest in tumours within the colon, rectum and appendix. He has extensive experience performing Cytoreductive Surgery and Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy, as well as surgery for advanced colorectal malignancy including multivisceral rectal and colonic resections. He is also core member of the Peritoneal, Advanced Pelvic Malignancy, Anal and Neuroendocrine multi- disciplinary team, performing surgery for early and recurrent anal cancers, and primary and metastatic neuroendocrine cancers.

After graduating from the University of Liverpool Medical School in 2006, he undertook postgraduate surgical training in Liverpool and to The Northwest (Manchester) Deanery. Following this he completed his Doctorate in Medicine (MD) in 2016 at the Paterson Institute at The Christie. Mr Clouston attainted his Fellowship with the Royal College of Surgeons in 2017 and undertook another year of training in Peritoneal and Advanced Colorectal Malignancy. He was appointed as a Consultant at The Christie in 2018.

Mr Clouston is actively involved in clinical research, and has a particular interest in into finding biomarkers for the development of venous thrombosis after colorectal surgery. He is a Chief Investigator on the multicentre randomised controlled trial SUNRRISE , which is investigating the effect that negative pressure dressings have on preventing surgical site infections
