Dr Schaffer was appointed as a staff specialist in radiology at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. They subsequently moved to full-time private practice, working in Sydney and rural New South Wales. Dr Schaffer has previously served as a director of the Royal Australian & New Zealand College of Radiologists (RANZCR). They are currently a board member of St Vincent's Clinic.
