About Dr Fairoz Abdul
Dr Fairoz Abdul is a Consultant Interventional Cardiologist at Birmingham City Hospital and Sandwell General Hospital. He also sees private patients at The Priory Hospital. He graduated from Bangalore University in India in 1999 and completed his postgraduate specialist training in general medicine and cardiology in the UK at major hospitals in the West Midlands and Wales. Dr Abdul received advanced training in high-volume complex coronary intervention centres, including the University Hospital of Wales Cardiff and Morriston Cardiac Centre Swansea. In 2017, he was awarded a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in cardiology with a special interest in cardiac intervention. He further enhanced his expertise with a one-year advanced fellowship in interventional cardiology at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital under the mentorship of an internationally renowned interventional cardiologist. Since October 2018, Dr Abdul has been serving as an interventional cardiologist at Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust. He specialises in managing a full spectrum of general cardiology conditions and is an expert in coronary artery disease (CAD), hypertension, and valvular heart disease. Dr Abdul runs specialised heart clinics, providing comprehensive care for various cardiac conditions, including angina, heart attacks, heart valve disease, cardiac collapse, post-heart surgery care, and other cardiovascular issues. He is also skilled in cardiac imaging techniques such as coronary CT and structural heart CT (TAVI CT). Proficient in both non-invasive and invasive diagnostic procedures, Dr Abdul performs cardiac catheterizations and therapeutic invasive procedures like coronary angioplasty, stenting, coronary atherectomy, and valvuloplasty. Dr Abdul holds a cardiovascular research degree (MD) from Cardiff University, focusing on the effects of nitrates on antiplatelet drugs in patients with CAD, conducted at the Welsh Heart Research Institute Cardiff. He has an extensive publication record in international medical journals and serves as a principal investigator in multicentre international research projects on valve disease and coronary intervention. He also supervises a PhD student researching cardiovascular disease at Aston University, Birmingham. In addition to his clinical responsibilities, Dr Abdul holds NHS management roles involving human resource management, clinical supervision of doctors, and clinical governance. He is dedicated to teaching and practical skills training, serving as the organising director of a simulation training course for interventional fellows, which has received excellent feedback. He also heads the interventional fellowship program at Birmingham City Hospital.
