About Mr Edward Ridyard
Mr Ridyard is an experienced Consultant specialising in medical and surgical Glaucoma as well as complex cataract surgery. He also has expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of general ophthalmic conditions. Mr Ridyard holds a substantive Consultant post at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Leeds. He sees Private patients at the Spire, Leeds and Newmedica Lincolnshire. Mr Ridyard graduated with Honours in Medicine from the University of Manchester, where his academic prowess was also recognised with the JHG Holt Prize for outstanding academic performance. Mr Ridyard completed his Foundation training at Oxford University Teaching Hospitals and Stoke Mandeville Buckinghamshire Healthcare Trust. He later completed his subspecialty training in Glaucoma at St James University Hospital, Leeds where he was subsequently offered a Consultant post. Throughout his career, Mr Ridyard's work has been recognised with numerous academic prizes, totalling an impressive nine awards. Notable accolades include the Royal Society of Medicine Ophthalmology Prize and the Ethicon Foundation Grant. He is committed to research having published 13 papers in peer-reviewed journals. In his spare time, he is an avid runner, having achieved remarkable success at the international level, earning his GB colours and representing Great Britain in the European Duathlon Championships in 2011.
