About

I am a Chartered Psychologist with the British Psychological Society and have a doctorate in Psychotherapeutic and Counselling Psychology from the University of Surrey. Prior to this qualification I was awarded a Bachelor of Science (First Class Honours) degree in Psychology with Clinical Psychology from the University of Kent.

I have a wide range of experience working within a number of Community Mental Health Teams and Psychological Services Departments for the Kent and Medway NHS Foundation Trust. These roles involved working with a broad spectrum of psychological distress ranging from mild to severe and enduring.

As well as my NHS experience I have worked within a private psychology practice specialising in a full range of medico legal assessment and treatment services including child protection, care proceedings and private law throughout southern England.

In a voluntary capacity I continue to provide psychotherapy for local charities and have in the past developed training and workshop programs for counsellors and psychotherapists in training. I have acted as an associate lecturer and researcher at university level and remain active in researching the impact of mindfulness meditation on anxiety disorders.

About the Therapy

I offer evidence based therapies for a wide range of emotional, relational and behavioral difficulties. As a scientific practitioner I am trained in a range of therapeutic approaches which means I am able to consider a person's difficulties in a way that suits their needs.

The three main approaches I use are:

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)– This is a type of psychotherapy that is recommended by the National Institute of Clinical excellence (NICE) for people diagnosed with depression, anxiety and many other difficulties. CBT is based on exploring and testing out thoughts and beliefs and how they might contribute to psychological problems. CBT is collaborative and involves the active participation of therapist and client.

Psychodynamic Therapy– This is a type of psychotherapy that emphasizes our relationship histories and how they have shaped our pattern of emotional coping and ways of relating to both ourselves and others.

Humanistic/ Person Centered Therapy– This is a type of psychotherapy that focuses on the natural tendency people have to grow emotionally. This approach emphasizes the value of empathic listening, the healthy expression of emotions, and creating a non judgmental environment that fosters emotional growth.

I am able to integrate the above approaches in a non judgmental, relational and change focused practice.

Diseases, Medical Tests and TreatmentsAttachment Based Therapy, Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT), Compassion Focused Therapy, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Gestalt Psychotherapy, Interpersonal Therapy, Transactional Analysis (TA), Trauma Focused CBT.
