About Dr Richard Doherty
Dr Richard Doherty is a Consultant Clinical Psychologist, experienced in delivering psychological therapy for Sleep, Stress and Anxiety Disorders, as well as complex relationship difficulties.
Dr Doherty Completed his Honours Degree (first class) in Psychology from the University of London. He then went on to obtain a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology, and a further Diploma in CBT Therapy, awarded with Distinction. His specific specialisms currently are work-related stress, complex sleep disorders / insomnia, ruminaton, couples therapy, and highly complex anxiety disorders.
In his NHS role he initially worked as a highly specialist clinical psychologist in CNWL's Anxiety and Depression service. He then moved to work at St Thomas' hospital for 16 years, and during that time was the lead psychologist for the complex sleep (CBT-I), asthma, headache and ICU units. He then held a locum role at St Thomas' in ICU, helping to support staff on the Covid wards with sleep (CBT-I) and stress during the pandemic. Followiing this he focussed on starting up his own clinic and is currently a Consultant Psychologist and Clinical Director for The Marylebone Psychology Clinic, a speclialist service for adults experiencing anxiety, stress, relationship difficulties or sleep conditions.
Alongisde his NHS work, he was a visting lecturer on the Oxford University Clinical Psychology Doctorate Course: Advanced intervention module for ACT therapy, and the Royal Holloway University CBT course for over 10 years, teaching specifically on CBT-I (for insomnia)
