About Dr Matthew Foxton
Dr Matthew Foxton has vast expertise in liver disease and associated conditions. He has a particular interest in viral hepatitis, early detection of liver disease and hepatocellular carcinoma. He specialises in the following areas: • Liver biopsy • Hepatitis • Anaemia • Hepatology (liver disease) • Dyspepsia (indigestion) • Viral hepatitis • Hepatocellular Carcinoma • Non-invasive detection of liver disease • Chronic liver disease • Abnormal liver function tests • Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease • Management of the complications of cirrhosis (including hepatocellular carcinoma) • Non-invasive assessment of liver fibrosis Dr Foxton gained his medical degree from St George's Hospital Medical School in 1995 before completing specialist training in the South East London region and gaining sub-specialty accreditation in hepatology-gastroenterology. In 2009, he completed his thesis on 'Hepatitis C recurrence after liver transplantation' and was awarded an MD from the University of London. He was appointed Consultant Gastroenterologist at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in 2007 and became consultant hepatologist at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and King's College Hospital in 2010. He became a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians the following year. Dr Foxton is a member of the British Society of Gastroenterology, the British Association for the Study of the Liver and the American Association for the Study of Liver Disease.
