Sports & Exercise Medicine
About
Between 2007 and 2009, Dr Creaney undertook higher specialist training in Sports and Exercise Medicine in London, working at the Royal London Hospital. He became a Consultant in 2009 and was the first Sports & Exercise Medicine trainee in the UK to be appointed as a Consultant in the specialty.
Dr Creaney specialises in the diagnosis and non-surgical management of musculoskeletal pain and sports injuries, with particular expertise in lower back pain, performance medicine and complex injury management. He treats approximately 2,000 private patients per year, managing conditions affecting the neck, shoulder, spine, hip and groin, thigh, knee, leg, foot and ankle.
He has held NHS Consultant posts in Sheffield, Manchester, Warrington and University Hospital Birmingham. Alongside his clinical practice, he has extensive experience in elite sport, having served as Chief Medical Officer in four Olympic sports: Athletics, Taekwondo, Gymnastics and Football. He has worked as a team doctor for British Athletics for over a decade and has developed a strong focus on football medicine.
Dr Creaney previously worked with Shrewsbury Town FC and currently serves as Team Doctor for LFC Women. He has also run a dedicated football medicine clinic at Spire Manchester and St George’s Park, where he held the role of Clinical Governance Lead. His practice combines evidence-based medicine, performance optimisation and a collaborative, athlete-centred approach to care.
“Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions.”
