Dr Kavita Raj is a Consultant Haematologist specialising in stem cell transplantation and myeloid malignancies, with over two decades of clinical and academic experience. She graduated with distinction from Seth GS Medical College, Mumbai, in 1993 and completed her postgraduate training in General Medicine at LTM Medical College in 1996. She obtained her MRCP (UK) the same year and subsequently undertook specialist training in Haematology in South East London, rotating through Guy’s and St Thomas’ and King’s College Hospitals. She was awarded FRCPath and CCST in Haematology in 2007.
Dr Raj completed her PhD in 2009 under a Medical Research Council Fellowship, focusing on the role of p15INK4B in Myelodysplastic Syndromes (MDS). Her doctoral research has contributed to the understanding of epigenetic regulation in MDS pathogenesis.
Since her appointment as a Consultant Haematologist in 2007, Dr Raj has been based at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust and King’s College Hospital. She is the lead investigator for the UK haploidentical transplant trial, has pioneered the application of extracorporeal photopheresis (ECP) for acute Graft-versus-Host Disease (GVHD), and serves as the principal investigator for national AML18 and AML19 clinical trials at Guy’s Hospital.
