About Dr Jayashree Basu
Dr Jayashree Basu is a Consultant Neurophysiologist based in South West London and north east Surrey, England. Dr Basu completed her medical degree at Calcultta National Medical College, India in 1991. She became a member of the Royal College of Physicians of England in 2000 and was appointed Consultant Neurophysiologist by the College and GMC in 2007. She has a wealth of expertise in neurophysiology, having trained at Walton Centre of Neuroscience in Glasgow, Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children and Uppsala University, Sweden. Now, she practices as a Consultant Neurophysiologist at Ramsay Ashtead Hospital in Epsom. She also holds a substantive fultime NHS Consultant post at St Helier Hospital in Carshalton, Surrey alongside providing Neurophysiology services at Dorking Health Centre. She specialises in all areas of the peripheral nervous system, typically seeing patients with the following conditions: • Myasthenia gravis • Motor neuron disease • Nerve root compression or injury • Demyelinating and inherited neuropathies • Trapped nerves • Muscle disorders • Nerve injuries Dr Basu is well skilled in performing nerve conduction tests and interpreting electroencephalograms (EEGs), electromyography (EMG) and evoked potentials (EPs). She uses this to diagnose and develop highly effective treatment plans for her patients. Outside of the clinic, Dr Basu delivers lectures in neurophysiology and teaches medical students, junior doctors, consultants, nurses and allied health professionals. She is also a member of the following professional organisations and societies: • The British Society for Clinical Neurophysiology • British Peripheral Nerve Society • American Association of Neuromuscular & Electrodiagnostic Medicine • British Medical Association • International League Against Epilepsy • Medical and Dental Defence Union of Scotland
