About Dr Howard Stevens
Dr Howard Stevens is a Consultant General Dermatologist with a specialist interest in skin cancer. Dr Stevens is also a fully-trained Mohs surgeon. Dr Stevens held the role of Lead and Chair of Skin Cancer at Barnet and Chase Farm Hospitals from 2006 to 2016. He has been a Consultant at the same hospital since 1998. During his time at Barnet and Chase Farm Hospital, Dr Stevens has been an integral member of a multidisciplinary team responsible for building the Trust into the largest skin cancer treatment centre in London. The multidisciplinary team that Dr Stevens oversees is the eighth largest team in the UK. In addition to his work at Barnet and Chase Farm Hospitals, Dr Stevens also set up Skin Care Network in 2010. The network is a collaboration between Dr Stevens and other dermatologists in the surrounding areas of Enfield and Barnet. Dr Stevens always does his utmost to ensure that his ethos of excellence in clinical care combined with a friendly and empathetic approach to patients is maintained and upheld at each of the clinics that he oversees. Dr Stevens received his medical degree from Jesus College, Oxford University and the Middlesex and University College London Medical School. Following the completion of his medical studies, Dr Stevens completed his dermatological training at the Royal Free and Royal London Hospitals. Following the completion of his medical training, The Welcome Trust offered Dr Stevens a research fellowship at the Royal London Hospital and he decided to engage with a complex and pioneering research project into genetic skin diseases. His research led him to study the impact of genetic skin diseases and their effects on skin, hair, nails, palms and soles. During the research project, Dr Stevens and his team were able to discover and identify the first gene that could be specifically linked to genetic deafness. Following this research, Dr Stevens has continued to be active in research and has developed an interest in skin cancer and advanced cutaneous surgery. He has gone on to become a fully-trained Mohs surgeon.
