Acerca de
Dr. Littleton has been a consultant neurologist at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham since 2011.
He sees patients with a broad range of neurological conditions, including migraine, balance disorders, Parkinson's disease, and epilepsy.
His subspecialty interest is in stroke medicine, and he is a core member of the stroke and transient ischaemic attack (TIA) services.
Dr. Littleton is engaged in stroke research and is a recipient of a Clinical Academic Research Partnership Award from the Medical Research Council (UK). His research centres on exploring the structure of thrombus which obstructs the artery to cause ischaemic stroke, particularly looking at the significance of Neutrophil Extracellular Traps (NETs). It is hoped that knowledge gained from this research will in the future lead to changes in the drug treatment for acute stroke.
He studied medical sciences at the University of Cambridge and went on to qualify in medicine 1996, after completing clinical training at University College London. He held junior medical posts around London before researching antibody-mediated neurological diseases at the Institute of Molecular Medicine in Oxford, which led to his DPhil. In 2011, he was appointed as a Consultant Neurologist at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, where he is an integral part of both the acute stroke service and general neurology service.
Dr Littleton is a member of the Association of British Neurologists and a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of London.
